Please remember that the
indoor classes will be held in the mornings in a comfortably heated room, and the outdoor
classes will be held outside...at 9318ft+ above sea level... in February...in the
mountains. The weather in Silverton is very unpredictable: during the school in the past
its been sunny and cold, sunny and warm, cloudy and cold, cloudy and warm, and
absolutely dumping. So, please bring appropriately versatile clothing and gear. Remember:
cotton kills. Blue jeans and t-shirts are fine for indoors, but for outside hope
for the warm sun, but be prepared to be wet and cold.
Recommended clothing:
Also, if you have snow rescue
gear, please bring it with you. Avalanche shovels (or regular grain scoops), probe poles,
avalanche transceivers (i.e., beacons), snowshoes, x-country skis w/skins if applicable
(remember youll be traveling over the snow during the field sessions) and ski poles
all will be very helpful. |
